Welcome to the Arts District!

The Benton Harbor Arts Association was founded in 1998 by a group of passionate community members and local business owners to promote a vibrant Benton Harbor Arts District. Our quarterly Art Hops and events like the Youth Art Fair and Artoberfest have brought thousands of people to the Arts District over the years. With our platform we believe in promoting, supporting, and funding local art. Our events highlight incredibly talented and passionate local artists and artisans as well as the businesses that populate the Arts District. It is these kind of partnerships that help us continue to fund and help coordinate the creation of murals throughout the Arts District and beyond. If you would like to help us continue our work, check out the links below to make a donation or become a volunteer with us!

Gene Harris Legacy Mural

Project Summary:
The Gene Harris Legacy Mural will honor Benton Harbor native and jazz pianist Gene Harris (Eugene Haire), a child prodigy whose music continues to inspire. Installed in the Arts District, the mural will feature vibrant imagery of Gene at the piano and celebrate his lifelong contributions to jazz.

Community Impact:
This mural will become a cultural landmark, promote local arts, and engage the community through a public unveiling event with live music and refreshments. It fosters pride in Benton Harbor’s heritage and connects residents and visitors with the city’s musical history.
